Slimmer Xbox 360 caught in the wild? Unfortunately, no.

Paul Thurrott over at the SuperSite for Windows reviewed the Microsoft Arc Mouse. In the background of the last shot in the review where he’s holding up the mouse, there appears to be two Xbox 360′s. One of them which looks slimmer than the one it sits next to. Whilst the shots aren’t 100% clear, the shape of it certainly fits the profile.

The top part of the 360 when the unit is standing upright, appears to be flat without that bulge that you normally see with the hard drive. This could simply be a case of the hard drive not being attached or it could mean that the drive is now integrated? One can only speculate so much since the photo doesn’t reveal enough detail to show whether that part of the mystery box has a connector for the hard drive.

Standing right next to the mystery box, is what appears to be another 360, albeit a larger model. It’s quite clear from the photo that this is the hard drive portion of the 360.

Did Paul Thurrott go and leak shots for Microsoft’s surprise 360 announcements for this years Christmas season? It would make sense given the RROD debacle and the recent price reduction.

Update: It appears that the slim 360 was in fact just some camera lense trickery. Here’s Paul Thurrott’s explanation. Oh well, for a second there we almost had a new 360…one can only hope.
