The ultimate goal for laptop makers has been to achieve the 24-hour battery life mark. HP claim to have done this with the top-end EliteBook 6930p that HP claims is able to run for 24-hours.

By combining state-of-the-art components with intelligent energy management, HP are the first to reach this kind of running time for this class of mobile device. The new EliteBook will use some of the latest energy-efficient technologies such as solid state drives and a custom-manufactured HP Ilumi-Lite LED display which can boost run time by as much as four hours compared to conventional LCD display technology.

HP have announced an availability date for the new EliteBook to be available in October, however to achieve the 24-hour performance time, customers will have to pay extra for the Illumi-Lite LED display and the 80GB SSD.

HP did not disclose the testing or benchmarking methods used to determine the 24-hour up time. However, if the EliteBook is able to achieve even half its claimed figure, then it’s already set a new milestone in notebook battery performance.
